Although magnetic therapy has been used for centuries to help reduce pain it still
remains within the category of 'alternative therapies'. |
Unfortunately, because so much is still to be learned about magnotherapy it does
attract some rather questionable products and practices to the market. |
Hopefully the information on this website will help you make a more informed decision
before purchasing a magnotherapy product. |
When Nigel Broderick studied the complex biophysical interactions introduced by
magnetic fields he developed his own theories as to how these forces could be applied
for the relief of pain and to help the general wellbeing of the body. |
Anticipating the scientific world would not accept these theories he silently continued his research
and development which resulted in his invention of a unique magnetic bracelet which was distributed by
his company Ecoflow and branded as 'Bioflow'. |
The Bioflow products were an overnight success and have since become the world's leading magnotherapy
product, providing pain relief and associated benefits to nearly two million people and thousands of
animals around the world. |
A product was even made for an elephant in a zoo with a painful back problem. This presented a problem
for the sceptics who suggested the products produced a psychosomatic response, because no-one can tell
the dogs and elephants what benefits to expect! |
The scientific world initially viewed Bioflow with scepticism. Over the previous years numerous
magnotherapy products had been trialled and tested under approved medical procedures, all with negative
results, and any further investigations were seen as an unnecessary waste of time and money. |
However, the incredible success of Bioflow compared to other magnetic products could no longer be
ignored. |
Nigel was approached by a family doctor who was impressed by the number of his patients successfully
using Bioflows and asked if Nigel would consider supplying a quantity of the products for a formal
clinical trial to measure pain relief, to which he readily agreed. |
The trial was independently commissioned and sponsored by the Arthritis Research Campaign and the
results were published by the British Medical Journal. |
One hundred and ninety four patients suffering pain from acute osteoarthritis were chosen for the
trial; some were given genuine Bioflows, some were given standard magnotherapy magnets housed in a
Bioflow case, and some were given Bioflow cases without magnets but weighted to feel identical to a
real Bioflow (these were 'placebo' products). |
All the products used were therefore identical in appearance and the patients were not informed which
product they were using. The only difference was the magnetic fields. |
During the 12 week trial patients were monitored and at the end of the period the majority of the
group wearing genuine Bioflows reported a reduction in the level of pain, whereas the groups using
standard and placebo magnets did not experience the same benefit. |
This remains the only successful clinical trial of a magnotherapy bracelet to be published in a
recognised medical journal. |
